About
Castlevania Chronicles III: Dracula's Curse is a free fan-made remake of Konami's 1989 NES classic Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, built by solo developer BMC WarMachine in Clickteam Fusion 2.5 and released for Windows in 2024. It rebuilds the original whip-and-subweapon action-platformer with updated 16-bit-style visuals, reworked stage layouts, new enemies and bosses, and a remastered soundtrack, while keeping the series' branching paths and recruitable companions (Grant, Sycha and Alucard).
Most sprite work is sourced from other Castlevania titles alongside a few original assets such as a custom Trevor sprite and a new boss. As an unofficial fan project unaffiliated with Konami, it was never sold commercially and is notable as a community labor of love rather than a licensed release.

⚙ Setup notes
Game: Free fan remake by BMC WarMachine (2024), built in Clickteam Fusion 2.5 — an original 2D action-platformer reworking Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, not Konami's ROM.
Proton: Clickteam Fusion exports are plain Win32/DirectX .exe titles that run well under Proton; GE-Proton is recommended because it adds the gamepad support Fusion games need on Deck (stock Proton works for many Fusion games too).
DRM: No DRM, no GFWL.
Controller: Native controller support (the dev advertises "released on PC with controller support"); a standard gamepad auto-maps, so no Steam Input layout is required.
Install: Portable Windows build — extract the archive and add the .exe directly as a non-Steam game (no installer). The confirmed executable is Castlevania Chronicles III - Dracula's Curse.exe (verified via the community cheat-table process name; current build was v3.0.295.10 / 03-2024).
Cosmetic: If the intro/cutscene blackscreens, that's the known Fusion DirectShow video-playback issue — skip the movie (press a button) to reach gameplay.
The one thing to know
Supply your own copy: Unofficial fan game (BMC WarMachine), not affiliated with Konami; never sold on Steam, so steam_appid stays empty and there's no appid to launch through.
Proton: Built in Clickteam Fusion 2.5; Fusion games are well-proven on Deck under Proton with good performance and native controller support. Use GE-Proton for reliable gamepad input.
Cosmetic: Known Fusion gotcha — DirectShow intro/cutscene videos can blackscreen on Proton; press a button to skip past the movie.
Binary: Executable confirmed as Castlevania Chronicles III - Dracula's Curse.exe (the Fusion export is named after the game; matches the community cheat-table process name). It is a portable build — extract and add the .exe as a non-Steam game.
Source: Free fan game; official builds come from the developer WarMachine Studios (Discord / YouTube community / The Inverted Dungeon fan page), not Steam — so steam_appid stays empty.

Get the artwork
deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick
the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the
game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the
Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.
Run it on your Deck
Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your
Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game
into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it
writes the recipe (binary, launch options, Proton version)
and registers the shortcut with artwork.
