About

Cut the Rope is a physics-based puzzle game in which the player slices ropes to swing a piece of candy into the mouth of a little monster named Om Nom, while collecting stars and avoiding hazards. Originally a 2010 mobile hit developed by ZeptoLab and published by Chillingo, it became one of the most successful and widely-ported casual franchises of its era. The Windows/Steam edition launched in 2013. ZeptoLab paused Steam sales on February 6, 2023 ahead of a planned rebuild for the title's anniversary, leaving the original version delisted.

⚙ Setup notes

DRM: Delisted Steam game (appid 223280) — ZeptoLab paused sales Feb 6 2023 ahead of a planned anniversary rebuild. No GFWL/SecuROM/DRM hurdles, no widescreen fix needed.

Proton: ProtonDB tier: platinum; the game is a lightweight 2D puzzle title that runs cleanly on Proton/Deck. It is a .NET/XNA build, and on native Windows some players hit a .NET/XNA-dependency crash — under Proton these runtimes are normally provided automatically, so no manual tweaks are usually needed. GE-Proton or proton_experimental both work.

Controller: Gameplay is pure mouse (click-and-drag to cut ropes, tap to pop bubbles) — there is NO native gamepad support. On Deck, use a Steam Input mouse-region layout: map the right trackpad (or gyro) to the mouse cursor and right-trigger/R2 to left-click. That trackpad-as-mouse setup makes precise rope-cutting comfortable on the Deck.

Install: deckport only configures the prefix; it never bundles or links the game files.

The one thing to know

Supply your own copy. deckport links nothing.

DRM: Delisted from Steam (sales paused Feb 6 2023); single-player puzzle game with no online dependency, so it stays fully playable offline.

Proton: ProtonDB platinum — runs out-of-the-box on Proton/Deck.

Controller: No native controller support, so you must set up a Steam Input mouse layout (right trackpad/gyro = cursor, R2 = left-click) to play comfortably on the Deck.

Binary: Binary name (CutTheRope.exe) should be confirmed against your own install.

Get the artwork

deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.

Run it on your Deck

Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it writes the recipe (binary, launch options, Proton version) and registers the shortcut with artwork.
