About

Kameo: Elements of Power is a 2005 action-adventure game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Game Studios as a launch title for the Xbox 360. Players control Kameo, an elf who can transform into elemental warriors — each with unique combat abilities — to defeat the troll army of Thorn and rescue her family. The game was a showcase for the Xbox 360's early graphical capabilities. It was never released on PC.

This recipe uses KameoRePowered (by birabittoh), a community static recompilation built on the ReXGlue SDK that ports the game to native Windows and Linux without emulation. You must supply your own legally dumped Xbox 360 ISO.

⚙ Setup notes

Recomp: Static recompilation of the 2005 Xbox 360 launch title Kameo: Elements of Power by birabittoh (project name KameoRePowered), built on the ReXGlue SDK. The tool converts the Xbox 360 PowerPC default.xex into native x86_64 code at build time and wraps it with a small host runtime (logging, overlays, hooks) so the game runs natively — not emulated.

Version: v0.2.1 released 23 June 2026 — still an early/active project; expect rough edges. Pre-built stable and nightly builds are published on GitHub Releases.

Proton: Ships a native Linux build (kameorepowered-v0.2.1-linux-x64.tar.gz) that runs on the Steam Deck without Proton. Add the executable as a non-Steam game.

Game files: The recomp is the engine only — you supply your own copy. Dump your own disc to an ISO and extract it into the assets/ folder, e.g. extract-xiso -d assets "Kameo - Elements of Power (USA).iso". The project ships NO game assets.

Setup: Place the downloaded executable next to the extracted assets directory and run it. Options (keyboard bindings, GPU/--vulkan_device, --user_language, --log_level) can be set on the command line or persisted in kameorepowered.toml.

The one thing to know

Supply your own copy: Requires a legally dumped Kameo: Elements of Power Xbox 360 ISO, extracted into assets/ with extract-xiso. The recomp ships NO game assets, code, or data.

Version: v0.2.1 (June 2026) — early/active project, expect rough edges and missing features. Check GitHub Releases for newer stable/nightly builds.

Binary: Use the Linux build (kameorepowered-v0.2.1-linux-x64.tar.gz); the executable inside is kameorepowered — confirm the exact name after extracting.

Native Linux: Runs on the Steam Deck without Proton; add the extracted executable as a non-Steam game.

Framework: Built on the ReXGlue SDK Xbox 360 static recompilation toolkit (translates PowerPC code to native C++) — repo at github.com/rexglue/rexglue-sdk.

Community guides

Write-ups and threads from people who got this (or a similar) game running. deckport links to them — it doesn't reproduce them.

Get the artwork

deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.

Run it on your Deck

Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it writes the recipe (binary, launch options) and registers the shortcut with artwork.
