About

Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers is the 2013 entry in the Duels series, an introductory digital adaptation of Wizards of the Coast's Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The single-player campaign follows planeswalker Chandra Nalaar across planes such as Shandalar, Ravnica and Innistrad, unlocking preconstructed decks through a series of duels.

This installment added Sealed Play, letting players open booster packs to build a 60-card deck and run it through a campaign. It was pulled from sale in November 2020 at Wizards' request as the series was superseded by Magic Duels and later Magic: The Gathering Arena.

⚙ Setup notes

Proton: ProtonDB rates it platinum. Most reports say it runs essentially like the Windows build under Proton with no special tweaks; proton_experimental works for most and GE-Proton is a good fallback. A few reports note a stuck/black loading screen on first launch — re-launch and/or switch Proton version if you hit it.

DRM: No GFWL or SecuROM DRM to bypass — it's plain Steam DRM.

Delisted: Delisted Steam game (appid 213850, pulled Nov 2020 at WotC's request — no longer for sale, owners keep library access).

Controller: Native gamepad support (the DotP series is console-style; PCGamingWiki documents a gamepad layout and local co-op needs controllers), so the Deck's built-in controls work out of the box with no Steam Input layout required.

Install: deckport only configures the prefix; it never bundles or links the game files.

The one thing to know

Supply your own copy. deckport links nothing — it only configures the prefix.

Delisted: Delisted Nov 2020 (WotC request); not for sale, but prior owners keep Steam library access.

Proton: ProtonDB platinum with multiple reports of it running like the Windows build under Proton. Use GE-Proton (or proton_experimental).

DRM: No GFWL/SecuROM — plain Steam DRM only.

Controller: Native controller support, so Deck gamepad works without a Steam Input layout.

Binary: Binary is DotP_D14.exe (the series uses the "D14" = Duels 2014 short tag, not the full year), in steamapps/common/Magic 2014/.

Online: Single-player and pass-and-play are fully offline; any online multiplayer is dead.

Get the artwork

deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.

Run it on your Deck

Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it writes the recipe (binary, launch options, Proton version) and registers the shortcut with artwork.
