About

Manhunt 2 is a stealth-horror action game and the sequel to 2003's Manhunt, casting the player as an amnesiac asylum escapee who must sneak past and brutally execute pursuers to survive. Built on a stealth-and-execution loop where killings are graded by their savagery, it became one of gaming's most notorious titles: it was given an Adults Only rating in the US and refused classification by the BBFC in Britain, forcing Rockstar to censor the executions before a re-rated release, and it was banned outright in several countries.

The PC version arrived in 2009 and is locked to 30 FPS with a rough port that the community has since patched.

⚙ Setup notes

Proton: Rockstar's 2009 PC stealth-horror, delisted (the PC version was never on Steam; sold only via long-dead storefronts). Runs under Proton — GE-Proton works well.

Fix: The base PC port is locked to 30 FPS and is otherwise rough; install the community PluginMH2 by ermaccer (extract PluginMH2.zip into the game root next to Manhunt2.exe) to lift the 30 FPS cap (60 FPS patch), skip the legal screen, fix disappearing decals, clean up headshots, and optionally restore firearm executions / first-person mode via PluginMH2.ini.

Display: This is a DirectX 8 title: if you hit black/pitch textures or lighting glitches, enable D8VK (set PROTON_DXVK_D3D8=1 in launch options) to translate D3D8 to Vulkan.

Controller: No native gamepad support — add a Steam Input layout that maps the controller to keyboard/mouse (community 'Manhunt 2' templates exist); this makes it fully playable on the Deck.

The one thing to know

Supply your own copy: Delisted commercial game. Mature/AO content.

No Steam page: The PC version was never sold on Steam, so there is no Steam appid and no dedicated ProtonDB page; tier is pending community reports.

Fix: Install PluginMH2 in the game root to lift the 30 FPS cap and fix the rough port.

Display: Enable D8VK (PROTON_DXVK_D3D8=1) if textures render black — it is a DirectX 8 game.

Controller: No native controller support: bind a Steam Input keyboard/mouse layout.

Links: deckport links nothing.

Community guides

Write-ups and threads from people who got this (or a similar) game running. deckport links to them — it doesn't reproduce them.

Get the artwork

deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.

Run it on your Deck

Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it writes the recipe (binary, launch options, Proton version) and registers the shortcut with artwork.
