About
ScummVM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine) is an open-source reimplementation of the game engines used by dozens of classic adventure game studios. Originally reverse-engineered to run LucasArts' SCUMM-engine games on modern operating systems, it now supports over 200 games from LucasArts, Sierra On-Line, Humongous Entertainment, Revolution Software, Adventure Soft, and many others.
ScummVM handles all the platform-specific complexity — sound, graphics scaling, savegame management — allowing the original game data files to run natively on Linux, Windows, macOS, and handheld devices. Eleven games are offered as freeware for free download from scummvm.org, requiring no purchase.

⚙ Setup notes
Engine: ScummVM is an open-source engine that runs 200+ classic point-and-click adventure games on modern hardware, originally targeting LucasArts SCUMM-engine games (Monkey Island series, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, Full Throttle) but now extended to Sierra On-Line (King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest), Humongous Entertainment (Pajama Sam, Freddi Fish), and hundreds of other titles.
Install: The cleanest Deck path is the Flathub Flatpak (org.scummvm.ScummVM) — install via Discover in Desktop Mode, then add as a non-Steam shortcut.
Freeware: ScummVM's website offers 11 freeware games that require zero purchases: Beneath a Steel Sky, Broken Sword 2.5: The Return of the Templars, Dráscula: The Vampire Strikes Back, DreamWeb, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Lure of the Temptress, Soltys, Sfinx, The Griffon Legend, Nippon Safes Inc., and Hi-Res Adventure #1: Mystery House. Download the ZIP for a title from scummvm.org/games, extract it, then point ScummVM at the folder via Add Game (ScummVM has no in-launcher downloader — you fetch the files first).
Commercial titles: For commercial titles (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango, Simon the Sorcerer, etc.) you supply the original game data files from GOG, from CD-ROMs, or other sources. GOG-purchased adventure games in the ScummVM compatibility list work directly with no additional steps beyond pointing ScummVM at the game directory.
Controller: The Flatpak includes gamepad support; the ScummVM virtual joystick mode maps thumbstick to cursor movement and face buttons to mouse buttons, making most games comfortable on Deck.
The one thing to know
Supply your own copy: For commercial games (Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, etc.) you need the original data files from GOG or your own discs.
Freeware: The 11 freeware games (Beneath a Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Dráscula, DreamWeb, etc.) work with zero purchases — download the ZIP from scummvm.org/games, extract it, and add the folder via Add Game (there is no in-launcher downloader). Note: Simon the Sorcerer is *commercial*, not freeware.
Install: Install via Flathub for the easiest Deck experience.
Controller: ScummVM's virtual joystick mode (thumbstick = cursor, face buttons = mouse buttons) makes most games playable with the gamepad; check scummvm.org/compatibility/ for per-game controller notes.

Get the artwork
deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick
the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the
game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the
Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.
Run it on your Deck
Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your
Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game
into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it
writes the recipe (binary, launch options)
and registers the shortcut with artwork.
