About

Sega Rally Revo is a 2007 arcade rally racer developed at Sega Racing Studio in Solihull, England, reviving the classic Sega Rally arcade series. Its standout feature is the GeoDeformation engine, which carves dynamically deformable ruts into the track surface as cars pass, progressively altering grip and handling over a race. It earned generally favorable reviews across PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and PSP, and the PC version has since been delisted from digital storefronts.

⚙ Setup notes

Overview: Sega Racing Studio's 2007 rally racer (Steam appid 4790), delisted.

DRM: This is a Games for Windows – LIVE (GFWL) title that *also* shipped with SafeDisc disc protection — so there are two hurdles, not one. GFWL is dead and the SafeDisc check fails under Proton, so the stock build will not launch as-is. The community fix is to apply the publisher's later DRM-free / NoDVD update plus a GFWL-disabler so the game boots offline without the dead LIVE service. (Earlier note here claiming "not GFWL" was wrong — GFWL is present.)

Install: Add it as a non-Steam game (or via the SEGA Rally entry) and force GE-Proton. Install d3dx9_35 into the prefix with protontricks (the launcher and renderer need the legacy D3DX9 runtime).

Display: Launch SEGARallylauncher.exe first, set resolution to 1280x800 (Deck) or 1280x720, then start the race. The launcher lives in SEGA/SEGA Rally; if it crashes, run SEGA Rally_SSE1.exe directly.

Compatibility: Once it launches, reports describe it running well on Deck/Deck OLED (good frame pacing); one known quirk is missing audio on the SEGA intro logo.

The one thing to know

Supply your own copy: Delisted commercial game.

DRM: Two blockers, not one — this is a GFWL title that also shipped with SafeDisc disc protection. The dead LIVE service and the disc check both stop the stock build from launching under Proton, so you need the publisher's DRM-free / NoDVD update plus a GFWL-disabler so it boots offline. (Do not trust older notes that said "not GFWL".)

Proton: Force GE-Proton and protontricks d3dx9_35.

Display: Set resolution in SEGARallylauncher.exe (1280x800 on Deck) — the launcher may not detect the Deck panel automatically. If the launcher itself crashes, run SEGA Rally_SSE1.exe in the SEGA/SEGA Rally folder directly.

Controller: Gamepad input works in community reports ("controls well"); if the GFWL-era pad handling acts up, apply a Steam Input gamepad layout and verify mapping in the in-game settings.

Status: protondb tier estimated from community reports — runs once the DRM is dealt with, so kept at silver pending an on-Deck test pass. deckport links nothing.

Get the artwork

deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.

Run it on your Deck

Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it writes the recipe (binary, launch options, Proton version) and registers the shortcut with artwork.
