About

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is the third installment in Neversoft's acclaimed arcade skateboarding series, with the PC port arriving in 2002 after the 2001 console releases. It introduced the revert mechanic, which let players chain vert tricks into manuals for far longer combo runs, and was the first entry in the series to offer online multiplayer. The game is widely regarded as a high point for the franchise; the PS2 version tied Grand Theft Auto III as the highest-rated PS2 title on Metacritic and earned a perfect score from GameSpot. The original PC version was later delisted and is no longer sold, distinct from the separate 2023 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4' remake.

⚙ Setup notes

Game: Neversoft's 2002 skater (original PC port, delisted). Base executable is Skate3.exe.

Patch: Apply the 1.01 patch first.

PARTYMOD: Install community PARTYMOD (partymanx/partymod-thps3): delete any prior widescreen dinput8.dll, extract PARTYMOD into the install dir, and run partypatcher.exe to produce a patched THPS3.exe — point the recipe at that patched exe if you patch. PARTYMOD adds widescreen support, modern-PC compatibility and broad controller/gamepad support.

Proton: Runs under Proton Experimental on Deck. The original PC port is delisted and has no ProtonDB page of its own (only the 2023 'THPS 3+4' remake, appid 2545710, is tracked), so there is no official ProtonDB tier — treat compatibility as community-reported via PARTYMOD rather than a verified rating.

Note: Not the 2023 'THPS 3+4' remake.

The one thing to know

Supply your own copy: Delisted commercial game (original Neversoft PC port).

Binaries: Base binary is Skate3.exe; PARTYMOD's partypatcher.exe creates a patched THPS3.exe you can launch instead.

Controller: Stock port has spotty gamepad detection. PARTYMOD is strongly recommended — it ships control fixes, multi-device stick support and corrected 60Hz frame pacing; pair with Steam Input if the in-game pad handling is still flaky on Deck.

Note: Distinct from the 2023 'Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4' remake, which is still for sale (do not confuse the two).

Community guides

Write-ups and threads from people who got this (or a similar) game running. deckport links to them — it doesn't reproduce them.

Get the artwork

deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.

Run it on your Deck

Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it writes the recipe (binary, launch options, Proton version) and registers the shortcut with artwork.
