About

WWE 2K16 is a professional wrestling game developed by Yuke's and published by 2K, the sequel to WWE 2K15 in the long-running WWE 2K series. It launched on PC in March 2016 with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin as its cover star and boasted what was then the largest roster in WWE video game history at roughly 120 playable wrestlers. Modes include exhibition matches, MyCareer, the create-a-wrestler suite, and Universe mode. As an annual licensed sports title it was eventually delisted from sale once newer editions shipped and roster/likeness licenses rolled over, and its online services were retired in 2017, leaving single-player and local play.

⚙ Setup notes

Game: 2016 Yuke's / 2K wrestling game. Large install (~40 GB), Steam appid 385730.

DRM: Delisted (WWE games get pulled as new editions ship + roster/likeness licenses) — only 2K23/2K24/Battlegrounds remain on the store; bring your own copy.

Install: The real executable sits in Binaries\Retail\WWE2K16.exe.

Proton: Community reports it runs well on Deck — works out of the box under GE-Proton (stock Proton 7+/Experimental also fine).

Fix: One common gotcha — the game does NOT install its own Visual C++ redistributable, so if it fails to launch run the bundled VC++ 2012 redist under _CommonRedist/vcredist/2012/vcredist_x64.exe before first launch. This is the most-reported launch fix in the community.

Controller: Native Xbox-pad input works, so the Deck controller maps directly with no extra layout.

The one thing to know

Supply your own copy: Delisted annual sports title (no longer sold on Steam — only 2K23/2K24/Battlegrounds remain); configuration only, no links.

Online: Servers were shut down in 2017, so this is a single-player / local-multiplayer experience only.

Fix: If it won't launch, run the bundled VC++ 2012 redist (_CommonRedist/vcredist/2012/vcredist_x64.exe) — the installer skips it.

Controller: Deck controller works natively as an Xbox pad; no Steam Input layout needed.

Licensing: Wrestler-likeness licensing makes this a rights-heavy entry even as documentation.

Get the artwork

deckport never hosts game images. Open this game on SteamGridDB, pick the cover / hero / logo / icon you like, and drop them into the game folder under .deckport-art/ before you push it to the Deck. The importer files them under the right names automatically.

Run it on your Deck

Two files: the one-time importer (deckport.py) in your Deck's home folder, and this game's install helper. Copy the game into ~/Games and run the helper with Steam closed — it writes the recipe (binary, launch options, Proton version) and registers the shortcut with artwork.
